Security is always a concern at trade shows and conventions. Some venues provide exceptional security, while others offer the minimum. Companies and exhibitors are expected to provide their own protections for trade show exhibits. You are not the only one concerned about security at events. Exposure safety can be dramatically reduced by budget cuts, venue size and event timing.
Theft on the Floor — Trade Show Displays at Risk
The floor is full of opportunities for thieves to grab great electronics. These skilled thieves will quickly sweep the foundations of these events, capturing everything from cell phones to laptops when staff members leave their booths for a glass or a call. The chaos of the day can also make it easy for you to fall prey to these thieves. It can be challenging to keep an eye on all sections of your exhibit when you are trying to generate leads and keep clients happy.
Information Theft
Another type of thief that can make your life miserable is the knowledge thief. These corporate spies are often looking to steal the prototype of a competitor’s product or intellectual property. They can seize laptops loaded with corporate information, schematics, or even the prototype. They can listen to your telephone calls to get more information about your clients or the innovation that your company is involved in.
Common Sense Solutions
Some solutions are easy, while others require more investment. These tips will help you reduce the risk of theft and sabotage.
* Never leave trade shows unattended, even for a moment. If you have to go, ensure another member of staff is available.
When not in use, lock up prototypes and other products that you are using for demonstrations. You should keep them in a safe place and store them at your hotel. If the venue does not have a safe or safety deposit box, don’t trust them with your security.
Labelling boxes with electronics or computer hardware is a direct invitation to thieves looking for fast-selling electronics. You can use a code to label a box containing your laptop.
* Make sure to remove all corporate secrets, intellectual property and inside information from laptops and other multimedia devices that you use for demos or interaction with leads. Use only these electronics, and then delete any new contacts or additional information before you use them at the next event.
Your trade show exhibits have been expensive. It makes sense to take all security precautions possible to ensure that they are safe and effective.
