How can you connect emotionally to your readers?

1.) Tell your personal stories and experiences

Sharing personal stories from your life, such as sharing the moment you were turned down by the person you fell in love with or about the time you put all your assets on the business transaction and ended up losing everything.

Discuss significant failures and huge successes. Be honest about the places you’ve come from in the past, your hopes, and where your goals for the future.

Write about the things you’re up to this moment and the reasons behind it. Tell your readers about yourself.

You’ll want to link everything in some way to an idea or lesson that they can draw from the tale. The message should not be “about” the person you are; however, by sharing a part of yourself during the process, you’ll be teaching an important lesson.

2 Pace, Pace, Lead

The “Pace Pace Lead” technique originated from Milton Erickson, one of the three therapists whose techniques were later used to develop the current NLP techniques.

The “Pace Lead, Pace, and Pace” technique was Erickson’s principal method for creating trust and building emotional bonds between his clientele. Utilizing this method and his experience, he was able to convince even the most demanding clients to believe in his expertise and to open up.

What exactly is the “Pace Lead, Pace, Lead” technique?

Start by pacing or “following closely” to the reader’s mood. Through describing their anger or their needs, as well as their mental state to them, they will feel that you genuinely understand them.

Then, and after that, you try to “lead” them to the place you’d like to take them (for instance, an instruction you would like them to understand or a change in their emotional state, etc. ).

3. Be genuinely emotionally involved

In a face-to-face conversation, the body movements and facial expressions express your feelings to the other person without saying a word.

When you talk on the phone, subtle shifts in your voice provide people with clues about what you feel even though they don’t see your face.

The same is true of writing too. Although you may not give as many clues that show you’re genuinely emotional when you register.

If you’re really enthusiastic about the subject, you’ll be able to show it. If you’re really unhappy about injustice, people are able to see. If you genuinely enjoy the product that you’re supporting, the public will be able to tell that too.

Written communications don’t convey emotion quite as effectively as face-to-face communication. However, the human-to-human emotional connection can’t be overemphasized enough, even when writing.

Put yourself in the reader’s emotional state prior to beginning writing. Writing at times of high emotional intensity and don’t wait until the motivation has gone away. Write while you feel the emotion. People will be able to tell that you wrote it, and they’ll feel the same.

Writing in a way that connects emotionally with your readers requires more effort and vulnerability from you. It requires you to share more about yourself than simply writing articles that are purely factual. However, that’s precisely what you need to do to establish a long-lasting audience.
