It is almost an automatic decision to have a narrow niche for your business. Many successful coaches and experts say that once they found the right place, everything changed, and their business was able to grow. This is why experts are still reluctant to narrow down their niche.
Let’s take a look at the main fears that niching evokes and address them one by one.
Fear 1. If my niche is too narrow, I’ll lose potential clients.
It won’t! The following scenario is possible: You wake up suddenly with a headache that doesn’t stop for several days. So you stop taking pain relievers like aspirin and start to feel sick. You decide to see a professional help you manage your headache naturally. You choose to look for three professionals. One is a holistic healer who can help people with all kinds of health issues. They also have the ability to attract love and more income. The second is a holistic healer that specializes in pain management and other ailments. The third one is a specialist in headaches and the various factors that can cause them. Which of these specialists would YOU choose? I would guess the third.
I’ll add more. Specialists who specialize in a particular niche get more referrals than generalists. Their message is also more appealing to their target audience, as it addresses their immediate needs. Imagine if there were 100 people in the room and you only had five clients. It doesn’t matter if your message is written for all 100 people or 50. If you craft your message so that it targets those five, you will have five new prospects.
Fear #2. I don’t want people to be turned away because they don’t fit my niche.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t. People will be more inclined to seek your help if there is a niche. Your message will inspire and move them to ask if they can help. Then, when people approach you for assistance, you’re the only one who can say “yes” or not.
Fear 3. What if I pick the wrong niche?
Coaches, healers, and other related professionals have a common misconception that once you choose a niche, it is yours for the rest of your life. It is simply not true. Your profession and expertise should constantly be evolving throughout your lifetime and the life of your business. It is okay to change the direction of your business at any time, provided that your niche aligns closely with your passion.
